Narendra Modi said that he had noticed that these days interest in Khadi has increased very much. “I had said that it is not necessary to have everything of Khadi only but if there are various kinds of fabric at home, why should Khadi not be one of them.  It may be a bed- sheet, a handkerchief or a curtain.  Experience shows that interest among the young generation for Khadi has increased. The increase in the sale of Khadi has resulted in a direct impact on the poor man’s household and linked to employment”.

 

Khadi is sourced from different parts of India, depending upon its raw materials, While the silk variety is sourced from West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and North Eastern states, the cotton variety comes from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Khadi poly is spun in Gujarat and Rajasthan while Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka are known for the woolen variety.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that employment opportunities were created for a number of people. Khadi Gramodyog has also revived its training center at Pampore in Kashmir. In this sector, Kashmir has so much to offer. With the reopening of the training center, the new generation will get a boost in jobs in manufacturing, weaving, in creating new things. Narendra Modi expressed happiness that even big corporate houses have started including Khadi items as Diwali gifts. Even people have started exchanging Khadi items as gifts.
