England Vs Pakistan 1st Semi Final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 – Preview

The 1st Semi Final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, this knock out game is played between the hosts England and Pakistan today at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

England is ranked 3rd in the ICC ODI ranking and Pakistan are ranked 8th.

England will want to continue their winning run in this tournament. The hosts haven’t lost any match in this tournament yet. England is coming from a good wins against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia.

On the other hand, Pakistan will have tough task to defeat England in England. Apart from the loss to India, Pakistani hasn’t lost any matches. They also would like to be in the winning form.

But Pakistan batting is a concern, their batting hasn’t fired till now. Chasing a modest total of 236 against Sri Lanka, Pakistan was struggling at one point despite of getting good opening stand from their openers.

England bowlers might run through this weak batting up line up of Pakistan. But nothing can’t be said because Pakistan is a unpredictable team. They might come fully charge up for this contest.

Pakistan has found a good explosive opener called Fakhar Zaman. He gave Pakistan a good start against South Africa and against Sri Lanka as well. his 50 run knock against Sri Lanka was good but he needed to stay there till the end, he would earned himself a wonderful hundred.

Pakistan would be hoping that he will continue his explosive form against England too.

Bowling is the real strength that Pakistan has. Mohd Amir, Junaid Khan, Imad Wassim, Mohd Hafeez and Hasan Ali have great for them.

Sarfarz Khan had a decent tournament as player and he has been brilliant as a captain for Pakistan, his 61 not out sealed semi final spot for them

For England everything has gone well till now. Their batting, bowling and fielding has been good.

Only concern for England is form of Jason Roy. Roy hasn’t been playing good cricket for England. Recently he has been struggling to bat well. that is causing England problems at the start.

But England has Joe Root, who has been good with the bat. Skipper Morgan had a decent run in this tournament. Jos Buttler too will give them a chance to score big in last few overs. Remember Jos Buttler has scored the fastest ODI hundred against Pakistan itself.

England has a luxury of having all rounder Ben Stokes.   Stokes was too brilliant against the Aussies, his unbeaten 103 run knock took England home when they were struggling at one point of time.

Bowling has been decent from England. Their bowlers were able o restrict the batting power house of New Zealand an Australia.

Bowlers like Moeen Ali, Steven Finn, Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood, Jake Ball, Adil Rashid and David Willey will come handy against the weak batting of Pakistan.

England holds an edge over Pakistan in this crucial game.

The only bonus for Pakistan team is that they have defeated England in Sophia Gardens at Cardiff. This should Pakistan’s moral booster in today’s game.
