India has good record against the Kiwis at home, they will want to continue that. But New Zealand will want to improve their record.
In 2016 to the New Zealanders toured India for 3 tests and 5 One Day Internationals. India won the test series 3-0 under Virat Kohli and under MS Dhoni the hosts clinched the One Day series 3-2. That series was the last for India under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The visitors lost the first practice game against the Board President XI but they bounced back well in the second. Ross Taylor and Tom Latham scored centuries that allowed the Kiwis to post 343 for 9 in their 50 overs.
After being beaten in the 1st warm game, the Kiwi bowlers were back in their business for the 2nd warm up game. Mitchell Santer’s 3 wickets, Colin Munro and Tim Southee’s 2 wickets and Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi picked 1 wicket each to see New Zealand through to a win in this game.
The visitors should take some positive from this game. The Kiwis should aim to start the series positively on Sunday.
New Zealand will want their top order batsmen like Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, skipper Kane Williamson and Tom Latham to score big.
New Zealand will surely the experience and calibre of Corney Anderson. Corney is the best all-rounder that the New Zealand have but they chose to drop him.
The Fast Bowling of the New Zealand team is top class. Trent Boult and Tim Southee are the best in all the formats.
But the spin department of the New Zealand is lacking experience. But the Indians can’t take them lightly. Even though Indian spinners are better than the New Zealand spinners but Indian batsmen should remember what happened to them in World T20 2016 in India.
Mitch Santner is the key for the New Zealand in the spin department. He has the experience of bowling in the Indian conditions.
For India, they would like to continue their good batting at the opening position. Shikhar Dhawan will want to perform well after missing the One Day Series against Australia. Rohit Sharma will continue his dominance like he did against Sri Lanka and Australia.
Skipper Kohli had an ordinary series against Australia. He scored only 1 fifty in the 5 match ODI series. Now he will aim to perform well against the Kiwis.
Young players like Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav should step up in the middle order. Their too had an ordinary series against Australia. Their performance is the key for India in the middle order.
If they don’t perform then all the pressure comes to MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya and India will not want to this to happen.
Hardik Pandya has been a great asset to the team. He has so far performed well in the given position, and will want to continue his all-round skills in this series.
India’s fast bowling has been the key to their success so far in ODIs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have exceptional for India with the new ball and in-depth overs.
In absence of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have replaced them brilliantly.
