New Zealand Vs India – 1st T20I – Preview

 

It will be a tough task for Kohli and his men when they will take on the Kiwis for the first T20 International on Wednesday 1st November 2017 at Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi.

After winning the One Day Series, Kohli and his men will look to extend their winning run in the 3 matches T20I series starting on Wednesday 1st November 2017 at Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi.

Kohli will have to do what Dhoni couldn’t do in his captaincy days, he should able to win the first T20 International match as an Indian captain.

India hasn’t won any T20 International match against New Zealand till now.

On the other hand, New Zealand will look to win this familiar format, after losing a close battle in Kanpur, Kane and his troops will want to salvage some pride by defeating India in T20s.

From 2007 to 2016, India and New Zealand have played 5 T20 Internationals and New Zealand has won all of them.

In India, both the teams have played 2 matches each; unfortunately, the hosts have lost them also.

Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla will be hosting the first T20 game for India. 

New Zealand have already a T20I at this venue. They played against England at World T20 in 2016 and they lost that game. .

This game will be the last for India’s veteran bowler Ashish Nehra.

Nehra will be playing his last International match on his home ground.

Kohli will want Nehra to play this match and get a winning farewell after a fantastic career.

Kane will want their players to step up and perform, he knows this is the best chance for his team to dominate against India in this shortest format.

New Zealand will depend on Martin Guptill in the top order. After his failure in ODIs, Guptill will want to perform well in the T20 series.

The Black Caps will also depend on their skipper Kane Williamson. Williamson is the leading run scorer for New Zealand in the T20 format. He also has the IPL experience with him, if he uses that then Kiwis will continue their winning streak against India in T20 Internationals.

Ross Taylor also has the IPL experience; New Zealand will be dependent on him as well.

Trent Boult who had a flop show after his wonderful performance in Mumbai will be expected to do well in the T20 series. Boult plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. His experience on the Indian tracks will come handy for the Kiwis.

New Zealand will hope that Ish Sodhi is fit for the T20 series, he another bowler with Mitch Santner who can turn the table around for the Kiwis.

Tim Southee had decent One Day series, he will look to perform better in the T20s.

India will depend on Virat Kohli, the skipper is the leading run scorer and number 1 batsman for India in this format.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will want to give a good start to India; they failed in the ODI series.

Kedar Jhadav has been dropped from the squad because of the poor run; KL Rahul has been his replacement. The Karnataka boy should make this opportunity count.

MS Dhoni should bat well in the T20 series, after having a decent ODI series MSD is expected to play well.

So as Hardik Pandya, he played well against Australia. But against Kiwis, he got carried away. He couldn’t live to the expectations of an all-rounder. He would want to rectify that.

Bowling has been the one to watch out for India, Bhuvi and Bumrah are bowling really well.

These two are the specialist for India with the new ball and in the depth overs. They are expected to continue to their good work.

Axar and Chahal bowled well in the One Day series. In fact, Chahal was the one who broke the dangerous partnership between Munro and Williamson. That brought India back in the game.

Kohli will expect Chahal to do well in this series as well.
