Sri Lanka Vs India 5 match ODI series – Final One Day International – Preview

The final ODI of this 5 match series will be played on Sunday 03rd September 2017 at R. Premadasa Colombo Stadium.

The hosts haven’t been as impressive and dominating as the visitors. Sri Lanka are on a verge of another white wash, after tests now it is the time of being white washed in ODIs.

Nothing is working for the home team at the moment, they have been 3 captains for Sri Lanka so far in the 4 matches, unfortunately none of them were able to beat the dominating India.

Plenty of worries for Sri Lanka, they need to drop players like Kusal Mendis because he hasn’t been performing for them. Gunathalika can be replacement as he can open the innings with Niroshan Dickewella.

The New players like Dilshan Munaweera and Wanidu Hasaranga didn’t use their opportunities well. They failed to make an impression in the 4th ODI match.

Sri Lanka need experience players like Upul Tharanga,
Thisara Perera and Chamara Kapugedara in the team. They should replace Dilshan Munaweera and Wanidu Hasaranga.

They might also need another all rounder like Angelo Mathews. Thisara Perera can fit in instead of Malinda Pushpakumara.

Former Skipper Angelo Mathews played well in the 4th ODI. He was good with ball, while others were leaking runs Mathews had an economical bowling spell and he also took 2 wickets.

With the bat, Angelo scored a vital 70 runs. Mathews should bat higher up the order. His ideal position should be number 4 in the batting order. His fighting 70 run knock should give him the confidence to play well in the last ODI.

Milinda Siriwardana should play role of MS Dhoni for Sri Lanka. He can be the finisher in the absence of Asela Gunaratne. Milinda should aim to play till the last ball of the Sri Lankan innings.

Sri Lanka needs to strength their batting order for that they should bring back Upul Tharanga as a opener with Dickewella. Tharanga has a good record as a opener. The home side will also need the services of Thisara Perera and Chamara Kapugedara. these 3 will add more depth to the batting order of the hosts.

The Bowling attack of Sri Lanka is also worry some, all bowlers were expensive in the 4th ODI.

Even though Lasith Malinga has picked up 300 wickets in ODIs, he has not looked so threatening as his olden days. He needs to step up as a senior pro in the team.

Pushpakumara, Vishwa Fernando and Chameera too were all over the park. These 3 young bowlers should support Malinga.

Inclusion of Thisara Perera will give them variety in bowling too. Sri Lanka should also think of Lakshan Sandakan, he picked a five wicket haul in the final test.

These changes might end Sri Lanka’s woes in this series.

Likely Playing XI of Sri Lanka –

Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Upul Tharanga, Gunathalika, Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne , Milinda Siriwardana, Thisara Perera,  Akila Dananjaya,  Vishwa Fernando, Lakshan Sandakan and Lasith Malinga (c)

India on the Alsop hand will aim to finish this ODI series on a high. Virat and his army will look white wash Sri Lanka in ODIs too.

India batted well in the 4th ODI and they scored the third highest score on Sri Lankan soil.

But there some concerns even if India is leading this 5 match series 4-0.

The form of KL Rahul is worry for India. Apart from the 1st ODI, KL Rahul got the opportunity to bat but he failed to make a mark.

Kedar Jhadav also was in bad patch, he was replaced by Manish Pandey in the last game.

Will Ajinkya Rahane get a chance in the last match of the series? KL Rahul’s patchy form will give an indication to Kohli about Ajinkya Rahane.

Rahane had good test series against Sri Lanka. He can adjust himself in the number 4 position.

With the openers in good nick, Ajinkya can’t find himself at the opening slot. He is an adjustable player so he will play well in the number 4 position too.

Shardul Thakur made an impressive debut. Kohli should stick to him.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya will continue their good form and the spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will again rock against the weak Sri Lankan batsmen.

India will win this series 5-0 and gear themselves for the lone T20 match which is to be played on 06th September 2017.

Likely Indian playing XI –

Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane,  Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur
