This season has been tough for the teams to seal the playoff berth. The Raising Pune Supergiants will take on the Kings XI Punjab tomorrow at Maharashtra Cricket Association at Pune in the 55th match of this season of Indian Premier League 2017.
Both the teams will aim to seal the playoffs berth in tomorrow’s match. Currently, RPS is in the 3rd position with 16 points and KXIP are in the 5th position with 14 points.
With a narrow against the Mumbai Indians, the KXIP team will be high on confidence. For RPS they need to strive hard as a batting unit. Against Delhi Daredevils their batting failed that’s why they lost the match by just 7 runs. Apart from Manoj Tiwari’s 66 no other batsmen contributed for them in that chase.
In their last encounter, it was the KXIP who won the game because of great bowling effort. The bowlers of Kings XI Punjab team did the job for them. The bowlers managed to restrict the batting power house of RPS for just 163 in 20 overs. Despite losing few wickets early, the Kings XI managed to chase the target down and won the game comfortably by 6 wickets.
Both the teams will miss south African players in the main stage of this tournament. RPS will miss their trump card and the No 1 T20 bowler Imran Tahir. On the other hand, KXIP will miss brilliant opener Hashim Amla. In this season Hashim Amla is the only batsman for KXIP to score 2 hundreds and the KXIP will also miss David Miller too. Miller is an exciting prospect in shorter formats like this. These players are out of IPL due to their national duty.
The squad for the home team Raising Pune Supergiants –
MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith(c), Adam Zampa, Ben Stokes, Manoj Tiwary, Jaydev Unadkat, Daniel Christian, Rahul Tripathi, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar
The squad for the Kings XI Punjab –
Manan Vohra, Axar Patel, Glenn Maxwell(c), Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Anureet Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Shaun Marsh, Wriddhiman Saha, Nikhil Naik, Mohit Sharma, Marcus Stoinis, Eoin Morgan, Martin Guptill, Darren Sammy, Rinku Singh, T Natarajan
The players to watch out for RPS are –
Ben Stokes – His athletic skills in cricket are simply mind blowing to the viewers and the experts. Ben Stokes is the most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL because of these skills he proves the RPS owner right. The catch he took to dismiss Mohd Shami on Friday night made everyone’s day. He is the one who can be very useful when he comes to on the cricket felid. Ben Stokes played a magical knock against the KXIP in their last encounter in this season. He was the saviour for the Pune team in the match. The other batsmen struggled to score runs in front of the Punjab bowlers but Ben Stokes took the responsibility and ensure that he guides the team to dependable score. His bowling has also been good. Steve Smith and the team will hope that Ben Stokes fires with his all-round skills in tomorrow’s match.
MS Dhoni – This season had not been so great for MSD with the bat. But his inputs and awesome wicket keeping skills had helped the Pune team a lot. As a senior pro in the team, it’s MS Dhoni who helps the team when they are in trouble. Unfortunately Dhoni hasn’t performed well with the bat. Expect the 2 good innings against the SRH, MSD hasn’t looked great. Now in crunch situation RPS will need Dhoni’s golden touch with the bat. If he performs well then RPS can seal the playoff berth tomorrow itself.
Jaydev Unadkat – The youngster had bowled some magical spells in this year’s tournament. Bowling has been a positive sign for the RPS. That has come because of bowlers like Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar. Rajat Bhatia, Daniel Christan, Imran Tahir and Adam Zampa.
Adam Zampa – In the absence of Imran Tahir, Adam Zampa will have more work to do if RPS wants to seal that playoff berth. The Aussie spinner hasn’t got much of an opportunity on his team mate to do a perfect job in this season for RPSbecause bowlers like Imran Tahir and Rajat Bhatia. But now he will be the main spinner for the Pune team. He has been bowling well and picking up crucial wickets but he needs to continue doing so. Skipper Steve Smith will be heavily relying on his team mate to do a perfect job for his team.
The players to watch out for KXIP are –
Wriddhiman Saha – The Wicketkeeper batsman played good innings of 93 not out against Mumbai Indians. In absence of Hashim Amla, the team will want a good start from this wicket keeper batsman. His naturally aggressive batting suits him as an opener for KXIP. His attacking batting style will help the team in a good way.
Martin Guptill – The Kiwi opener will have a lot to do cement his place in the team. if it all Martin Guptill fails to perform in this much needed hour then Shaun Marsh is all ready to replace Guptill as an opener in upcoming games. Martin Guptill has everything to play for.
Axar Patel – The hard hitting all-rounder is a luxury to have in the team in a format like this. He has been giving lusty blows towards the end of an innings for KXIP. His hard hitting ability will make a difference of 15 to 20 runs to the eventual score. That might prove a huge difference in the end.
Mohit Sharma – A new depth over king in a making for KXIP? Mohit Sharma gave only 7 runs in last over when Mumbai needed 16 of final over. Mohit will be expected more to bowl such overs. Skipper Maxwell will want Mohit Sharma to do from now.
