Indigenouslybuilt Akash surface-to-air missile approved by cabinet for export

India will start exporting the native Akash missile system as it has obtained clearance from the cabinet for the same. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a series of tweets on Twitter.

“Under the #AtmaNirbharBharat, India is growing in its capacity to manufacture a wide range of defence platforms and missiles,” said Rajnath Singh

The Cabinet chaired by PM @narendramodi ji today authorised the export of the Akash Missile System and a committee for quicker approvals has been set up.”

Rajnath Singh went on to state that the Akash missile system is a significant security asset for the country with more than 96 per cent indigenisation. He also noted that the Akash is a 25-kilometer surface-to-air missile. This are the same missiles that were tested by India a few weeks earlier.

Built by DRDO, India’s first indigenous missile system is capable of attacking fighter jets, cruise missiles, drones and other aerial assets.

“The export version of Akash will be different from the system currently being deployed with the Indian Armed Forces,” Singh said.
