Hi there, the old guys.
Yes you, the ones who created the legendary cartoon characters of the 90s. You gave us a glimpse of the stone age. You showed us what fear could mean to a dog. You made sure that we learnt science from probably the smallest genius ever thought of. You taught us that the real monsters are actually humans (which benefitted us years later by the way). You made us believe that it is ok to be silly at times. You dawned it upon us how much cats hate mice. And finally you were the ones who told us that sugar, spice and everything nice could actually create magic.
Here it is. We miss you. Yes we truly do ‘cause you were the ones who created some of our most loved companions after school. You gave us The Flintstones, Courage The Cowardly Dog, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Scooby Doo, Ed Edd and Eddy and lots more such fantasy characters which have continued to survive in our memories. What you gave us is irreplaceable.
We belong to a generation of hopeless nostalgics, always wanting our childhood to somehow come back to us. And in desiring this, we try to collect the little pieces that are left of it either by going through old comic books or by streaming old cartoons online. We genuinely miss our childhood and most importantly the stuff that made our childhood so awesome as to be yearned so much. We know you guys, the old cartoon creators, can’t do much about how we feel. But all we want to do is thank you for the incredible childhood memories that still live with us and remind us time and again of their existence in our minds and hearts. Thank you for giving us something to hold onto in this fast paced competitive adult world that we are struggling to survive in. We miss you.
To the new guys,
No, we don’t hate you. Even after you brought in Shinchan and Doremon. We seriously don’t hate you. Ok, maybe we do a little but c’mon, your cartoons replaced the ones we loved so much. We cannot help but compare your creations to the ones that the good guys used to show on television in the 90s. The ones you bring on the Tv today are either screaming like hell or showing their butcheeks to their moms. Like seriously guys, what is that!
Alright now, so without any more harsh words we would humbly like to say that toons today are no less than noises for us. It is our humble request to you to please stop this madness and start creating sensible cartoons (or let the old ones come back). We, the 90s kids, are now in our twenties and there are lots of us out there who are soon going to have children of our own. It is a tedious task to search for good and sensible cartoons (like the ones we got to watch) online and download them for our toddlers. And we certainly don’t want to breed little Shinchans in the world.
Secretly, we do want those cartoons for ourselves. We want someone to tell us that we haven’t become adults yet and all is ok just like it used to be in the 90s and who can do the job better than the 90s cartoons.
So to the new cartoon creators, please start putting some sense into what you put up on the Tv. To the old cartoon creators, we are in an emergency, we love you and we need you back asap.
Yours adults by body but not by heart,
The 90s Kids
