Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone has been one of the puissant voices to create awareness about the importance of mental health, on this World Mental Health Day, October 10.
In honor of this occasion, Deepika opened up about her battle with depression in 2014, as she took the issue to her twitter and has shared an important massage for the awareness of the widely stigmatized illness.
In a video posted to her social media handle, the ‘Padmavat’ star stressed that depression is like any other disease that requires interference. In fact, in that same video, she discusses being diagnosed with clinical depression in 2014 and need to destigmatize mental illness.

She said, “In 2014, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. But, in India, 90 percent of people who suffers from depression don’t seek help. Depression is likely any other illness that requires intervention”.
Deepika further urged others to feel free to share their stories about mental illness without stigma, by using the hash-tag, #NotAshamed.
The 32-year-old actor revealed that in 2014, she was struggling with anxiety and depression. Since then, the Bolly diva has been actively involved in spreading awareness about the illness and we have often see her talking about her mental health in various interviews and gatherings.
The actress also disclosed that she was given medication to deal with the ‘monster’ named depression and that made her mental condition better.
Deepika also founded the Live Love Laugh foundation to promote mental health care.
Apart from Deepika, stars like Siddharth Malhotra and Madhuri Dixit Nene too persuaded their fans and followers to keep mental health a priority.
On the work front, Deepika was last seen in Sanjay Leela Banshali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavat’, also starrer Deepika’s beau Ranveer Singh and Sahid Kapoor and now the actor will turn producer for Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming venture on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika will reportedly to essay the character of the survivor.
