The veteran bollywood actress, Reema Lagoo, suffered cardiac arrest around 3am today after which, she was taken to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where she took her last breath. She was 59.
Reema Lagoo was a veteran of the Marathi stage. Born in 1958, she was the daughter of Mandakini Bhadbhade, another prominent Marathi actress of her times. Her only daughter, Mrunmayee, is also a stage actress, film actress and a theatre director.
Lagoo’s son-in-law, Vinay Waikul said, “She was complaining of chest pain, so we took her to the hospital around 1 am. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15am. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues…so it is really shocking for all us that she is no more with us.”
She had also worked with a number of high-profile Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, etc. Through 39 years of her acting career, she had been appreciated by the lot in all of her roles. Messages of condolences have been coming in on Twitter from prominent faces of the Bollywood
industry like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra.
She was famous for her portrayal as a mother to several actors and actresses in blockbuster movies. She played a mother to: Salman Khan in Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan and Hum Sath Sath Hain, Akshay Kumar in Jai Kishen, Madhuri Dixit in Hum Apke Hain Kaun and Sanjay Dutt in Vaastav. Awarded with four Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress, she was revered by the industry for her powerful performances.
Reema Lagoo also starred in famous Tv serials of the 90s including Tu Tu Main Main and Shriman Shrimati.
PM Narendra Modi condoled her death in a message that said, “Reema Lagoo was a versatile actor who left a big impact in the film & TV world. Her demise is saddening. My deepest condolences.”
Reema Lagoo had recently returned to acting for Tv with her show Naamkaran where she played a negative role. The show is aired on Star Plus. She had also appeared last in the Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali.
Her sad demise has indeed come as a shock to the industry as well as her fans from all over the country.
