It was a proud moment for India when Malayalam film Jallikattu, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, was chosen as India’s official Oscar entry in 2021. Jallikattu was expected to perform in the category of Best Foreign Feature Film. Unfortunately, on February 10, it was announced that Jallikattu had not made it to the final appointment.
But there’s always a ray of light for the Indians, as Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru remains in the Oscars 2021 race. The Sudha Kongara Prasad directorial venture is competing in the general categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and a few others. Also, Karishma Dev Dube’s Bittu project was nominated for the Live Action S final round.
The Academy announced final nominees for the following categories: International Feature Film, Documentary, Original Soundtrack, Original Music, Makeup and Hairstyling, Special Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Animation Short and Animated Short Film.
Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, has been nominated for general categories such as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Producer, Best Original Score, and a few others. In order for Soorarai Pottru to make it to the final nomination, he must run in several rounds and gain several votes. While Jallikattu was India’s official entry for Oscars 2021, Soorari Pottru was paid to the Academy Screening Room.
