It is never easy to make a biopic, and when it comes to making one on the life of a controversial personality like Sanjay Dutt, the effort becomes twofold.
But Rajkumar Hirani made it possible. Not only that, he got a thumbs up from viewers and critics within a span of just five days.
Well, he has his own style of making films. We have seen his directorial magic so far in films like ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ to ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK’. But this time, this genius came up with Sanjay Dutt’s biopic named ‘Sanju’.
According to box office collections, sources said, ‘Sanju, has grossed around Rs 100 crores. But famous film trade analyst Taran Adarsh’s recent tweet have disclosed that this movie is now trading in the Rs 150 crores club.
‘Sanju’ has even beaten the day 3 record of ‘Bahubali 2’ (Hindi); but the basket of surprises does not end not here!
This movie already has broken the first weekend box office collection of ‘Race 3’. Sanju’s first weekend’s collection is around Rs. 120 crores, as per reports. Whereas Salman’s latest release ‘Race 3’ has managed to garner around Rs 106.47 crores.
So, this movie is undoubtedly giving a tough competition to Bhaijan’s ‘Race 3’. Hence Raju and Ranbir have proved that content is first and the last factor that impresses the cine-goers. Weekdays or weekends, a good movie does need this content factor to attract movie buffs or to win the hearts of the viewers.
Bhaijan and holy Ramadan mean a new blockbuster. This year too Sallu Mia’s ‘Eid-e’ for fans was ‘Race 3’. Earlier, a fortnight ago, ‘Race 3‘was declared as the biggest opener of 2018, after Bhansali’s ‘Padmavat’.
On its opening day ‘Padmavat’ collected Rs 18 crores; whereas, ‘Race 3’s first day’s collection of Rs 27.5 crores, had broken that record. Not bad!
It is also worth a mention here that dance choreographer Remo D’Souza’s directorial debut opened on a quite good note.
Film analyst Taran Adarsh had said, ‘Sanju’ creates history by making the record of highest single-day collection for a Hindi film, which demolishes the earlier record held by S S Rajamouli’s ‘Bahubali 2’ (Hindi). ‘Bahubali 2’ had collected Rs 46.50 crores on day 3, which was a Sunday. But Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ has surpassed it by collecting Rs 46.71 crores on day 3 (Sun). ‘Sanju’ has smashed all the first weekend box office collection records of 2018 so far.
Let’s have a look on 2018’s top 5 movie’s opening weekend biz till date —
- Raid – 41.01 crores
- Baaghi 2 – 73.3 crores
- Race 3 – 106.47 crores
- Padmavat (Extended 5 days – select previews on Wednesday + released on Thursday) – 114 crores
And now comes,
- Sanju – 120.06 crores
So, it is clear that Raju’s ‘Sanju’ is leading the box office collection till date (2018).
Stepping into ‘Bollywoody Badboy’ Sanjay Dutt’s shoes could be a game changer for Ranbir Kapoor’s career. In 2013, Ranbir’s ‘Besharam’ made 21.56 crores on its opening innings. But this year, his ‘Sanju’ broke that record by scoring 34.75 crores on its opening day itself.
Similarly, Hirani’s ‘PK’ was a massive hit in 2014 that gathered 26.63 crores on its opening day; whereas, ‘Sanju’s first day box office collection have shown the growth of Hirani’s Director-graph. Well, all we can say is that this ‘R’ factor (Rajkumar + Ranbir) is doing well, rather giving a tough competition to another ‘R’ factor, ‘Race 3’.
