“Since the past 27 years I am acting in films, have done more than 70 films. But they (read KIFF committee) call me for dancing and for addressing. It is unfortunate that my movie is not screening here,” spoke the baadsha.
At the inauguration of the 24th Kolkata International film festival Shah Rukh Khan also observed in presence of Honourable Chief Minister, state ministers, and dignitaries like Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Jaya Bachchan and various Tollywood personalities.
The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated on Saturday at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. The festival will be held from November 10 to 17. In total 171 movies and 150 small time movies from 70 countries will be shown at 16 locations.
The highlight of this year’s festival is that it celebrates 100 years of Bengali Cinema. So the list of films to be screened will include some brilliant masterpieces from Satyajit Ray, Rittwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen among others.
Special guests of the inaugural ceremony included guests such as Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Iranian director Mazid Mazidi, Wahida Rehman, the state brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan, veteran director Mahesh Bhatt among others.
Others who were present at the occasion were Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Sabitri Chatterjee, Prasenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Mimi Chakraborty, Koyel Mullick, Sohom, Goutam Ghosh, Biswajit Chatterjee, Dev, Abir Chatterjee, Nusrat Jahan, Priyanka Sarkar, Tanusree and other Tollywood celebrities.
Amitabh Bachchan before beginning his speech said, “Engrezi te bolechi, ebar banglai bolchi, asha kori bujhte parben, rokkha korun ma, aar parbona.” (Said in English earlier, now will say it in Bangla, spare me mother, cannot not speak in Bengali more.) The trailer of Shah Rukh’s movie Zero was also shown.
The programme began with songs by Vikram Ghosh, Ostad Rashid Khan, Usha Utthup, Rupankar Bagchi, Lopamudra Mitra. Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan along with CM Mamata Banerjee lighted the lamp and inaugurated the festival.
