In a major jolt to Rahul Gandhi-led Congress on Thursday, a group of its 12 MLAs joined ruling TRS in Telangana
The Telangana State Assembly has notified the merger of a defecting group of 12 Congress Members of State Legislative Assembly into the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
In a bulletin released on Thursday evening, Speaker of State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy stated that the 12 members of Congress Party who had submitted a letter seeking the merger are deemed to have been merged with the TRS from today.
The latest development has reduced the strength of Congress party in the Assembly to six from 18, leading to it losing the main Opposition party status.
