At least 15 people died and 50 others left wounded after strong winds made a tent fall on them duringa religious programme in Rajasthan.
The incident occurred in Jasol Village of the State’s Barmer district on Sunday when a Ram Katha pandal collapsed due to strong winds and rain.
A large number of people were present when the incident took place, said the administrative officials.
People may have died of suffocation or due to electrocution. More than 40 injured are being treated at Balotra Hospital, while 10 people have been referred to Jodhpur Medical College, they added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the collapse of Pandaal as unfortunate, while adding that his thoughts are with the bereaved families and wished for the quick recovery of the injured. \
Union Home Minister Amit Shah too expressed pain at the loss of lives due to collapse of a Pandaal .
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot expressed their condolences for the families of the deceased while ordering an inquiry into the incident and Divisional Commissioner of Jodhpur will probe the incident.
An ex-gratia amount of Rs. 5 lakh has been announce to next to the kin of the deceased individual and Rs two lakh for the inured.
