External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Varanasi on Monday.
Also, present on the occasion at the dais was Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. (Dr.) V. K. Singh (Retd.) and Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore who joined the two senior leaders in ceremonial lighting of the inaugural lamp.
RajyaVardhan Rathore later tweeted: “Very pleased to attend Youth #PBD2019 at Varanasi w/ @SushmaSwaraj ji, @myogiadityanath ji, @Gen_VKSingh ji, Himanshu Gulati ji & @bakshiks ji
“Our diaspora has always championed Indian culture in faraway lands & contributed tremendously to India’s success story,” the tweet added.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to informally inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
The participants are reportedly expected to be taken to Kumbh and later they may attend the Republic Day parade as well.
One of the most magnificent highlights of #PBD2019, and in fact the city of Varanasi itself, is the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.
A day ahead of the event, preparations were on in full swing. While some were renovating their dwellings, others were busy putting the minutest things in place to ensure maximum comfort blended with original Banarasi heritage, in all its glory, to the guests.
District magistrate Surendra Singh and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Suresh Rao Anand Kulkarni will lead the Banarsis in hosting the NRIs at their homes, reported a leading daily.
It needs to be mentioned remembered PBD conventions are being held every year since 2003, providing a platform to the overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people of the land of their ancestors for mutually beneficial activities.
These conventions are also very useful in networking among the overseas Indian community residing in various parts of the world and enable them to share their experiences in various fields.

During the event, individuals of exceptional merit are honoured with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to appreciate their role in India’s growth.
The event also provides a forum for discussing key issues concerning the Indian Diaspora.
