Last year Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy venture ‘Stree’ proved as a game changer in Bolly industry’s filming style. But it was not Rajkummar and Shraddha, rather Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, the actor-director duo who introduced the genre to cinephiles with their 2007’s horror venture ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.
And now if the reports are to be believed, our Khiladi Kumar is back in the same space after 12 years. It’s been more than a decade that Akshay’s horror-comedy venture made the audience laughs as much as it spooked them out. If we talk about the recent horror-comedy film ‘Stree’ which stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, the film has gained so much appreciation last year and was very much successful in box office too.
Coming back to Akshay’s latest horror-comedy venture, the film will be helmed by Raghava Lawrence. 2019 seems to be a very busy year for actor Akshay Kumar, as after wrapping up the shoot of ‘Mission Mangal’, the ace actor has already begun filming his next, ‘Good News’, which also stars Nawab begum Kareena Kapoor Khan. And the latest reports says, once that gets over, he will start work on another venture, as Khiladi Kumar has signed the dotted line for a horror-comedy film. The project is expected to go on floors by April’s end this year.
A source close to the development has revealed that the yet-untitled project will be inspired by director Raghava Lawrence’s successful Tamil franchise ‘Kanchana’. The source also added that the recent venture is not a straight remake of that Tamil film. The basic references will be taken from two films—‘Muni’ and ‘Kanchana’, which is more like two films clubbed in one to create double the impact. The team has already begun working on the script for over six months and has added several new twists to the original plot.
The horror-comedy will be a revenge drama that will see Akshay essaying a man who is so afraid of ghosts that he doesn’t step out of his house after sundown. The twist in the story comes when he encounters a transgender ghost.
The makers are currently looking forward to finalizing the cast, title and the shooting locations.
According to reports, Akshay’s latest horror-comedy film will be shot for 60-70 days between April and July and is targeting an early 2020 release.
Okay, we are waiting Khiladi Kumar!
