On Monday, February 4, that marks World Cancer Day, actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap shared a bold post on social media. Tahira, who is taking her battle against the life-threatening disease cancer head-on, penned down a long heartfelt caption for that bold photograph of her, which is indeed a motivational message for all those fighters, survivors who are battling the big-C!
Wearing her scars as her ‘badges of honor’, Tahira wrote in her caption, “Today is my day! Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday and hope each one of us celebrates this day in an embracing way. That we remove any stigma or taboo associated with it. That we spread awareness about it and that we have self-love no matter what. I truly embrace all my scars as they are my badges of honor.”
Further, she clarified in her post that the decision to upload the post was actually tough one for her. But Tahira thinks, people are not enough aware of cancer. And that’s what made her share the post on her social media handle.
Talking about breast cancer and the awareness among women, Tahira recently asserted in an interview, “When I was going through the process and had the surgery, there was absolutely no intention of keeping it a hushed affair. This is the kind of thing that I got from some people who belongs to my family and very close to me. They do not discuss it with people around.” But Tahira has changed her perception after visiting doctors several times and going through her treatment rounds. “Once I started doing the rounds of my mammography, x-rays and go to the doctors, I was really shocked to hear the statistics. Doctors told me that most of the women are embarrassed and so many women, who even see the significant symptoms or if they have a lump in breasts or anything, they feel shy or embarrassed to share it with their family or anyone close to them. They endure it until the time it is out of control. Which is why I took to social media in a humorous way,” said the cancer survivor.
Further, the brave lady Tahira also revealed that from where she derived the strength to battling the big- C with smile. She said that it’s Buddhism, that’s where she derived her strength from. “It’s a phase in yourself, but you need something to make you realize that you can endure the toughest of pains,” and that ‘external stimulus for her was Buddhism’, she explained.
“I practice Buddhism. I have been chanting and got a lot of clarity. One of the basics or explanations of Buddhism is if something happens or an obstacle comes to you, it comes for a reason. The reason is to stretch your limits and become a better version of yourself. So, once I had that clarity in my head I understood that this has only come for me to become a more beautiful version of myself. So, I better enjoy it with a perspective of taking it as a learning process, not just go into a complaining and grudging mode,” she added to her verse.
Well, all we can say is, ‘More power to you girl! Tahira, you are truly an inspiration for each of us. Here’s wishing you a healthy, happy and speedy recovery’.
