In describing Senior Journalist Smita Prakash ‘pliable’ over interviewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has exposed his latent side of personality which revealed his ‘ungrateful being’ towards even those who may have supported not just his party but family as well!
Rahul Gandhi, son of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi, appears to have completely forgotten that it was Smita Prakash’s company Asian News International (ANI) which has long been ‘favourite’ of entire Congress party for decades.
Smita Prakash is the daughter of Late I. Ramamohan Rao, a former Press Information Officer (PIO) and media advisor of four Prime Ministers.
She interviewed Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was put in public domain on January 1, 2019. The interview drew Rahul Gandhi’s ire in the Lok Sabha as a part of mud-slinging campaign that he has been carrying out in the recent times to earn political relevance as a person and political leader.
Smita’s family has long been known in media circles as being a hardcore supporter of Gandhi family for long without offending the top BJP leadership.
The significance of Smita’s family can be gauged from the fact that when Smita’s father Rao was cremated, Congress party being led by Rahul’s mother Sonia Gandhi at that time sent two senior spokespersons to attend the funeral and pay their tribute.
Rao was held in high esteem across the media till his last breadth.
Reacting to Rao’s death following a prolong illness, Sitanshu Kar, the then Director General of Press Information Bureau, described Smita’s father in a tweet as: “I.Rammohan Rao, former PIO #PIB passes away. He was a legend and an inspiration to so many of us. Rest in peace, sir.”
Even Gandhi family, including Rahul Gandhi himself, expressed its deepest sorrow over Rao’s death in their individual condolence messages.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed her deepest condolences at the demise of Smita’s father Rao.
Describing Mr. Rao as a wonderful human being and recalling his association with former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, the then Congress president said that he was somebody who understood the landscape and nuances of government communication and was widely admired by friends and colleagues alike.”
“The passing away of Shri I. Ramamohan Rao is a huge loss to the Indian Information Service fraternity,” she added. Gandhi said the Congress Party stands in grief with the family of Mr. Rao. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” Sonia Gandhi added.
Earlier that day (On May 15, 2017), even Rahul Gandhi, the then Congress vice president, took to twitter to praise the sincere contribution of the former PIO to the Government of India.
“A veteran of the Indian Information Service, Ramamohan Raoji rose to the pinnacle of his career& embodied the best values of his profession,” tweeted Rahul Gandhi.
In another tweet, four minutes later, Rahul Gandhi tweeted: ““A former PIO to GoI, he worked with four Prime Ministers including my father. My sincere condolences on his passing.”
In lampooning Smita Praksh, the beloved daughter of the same I. Ramamohan Rao, a long-time great supporter of Congress party and doyen of Indian journalism, Congress President Rahul Gandhi appears to have cast aspersions on not just a woman journalist but also insulted a hardcore supportive family of the Congress, as an ungrateful person and a political novice. Long live India’s Donald Trump!
