After the success of ‘Stree’, the producer and the director-duo, Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, announced their new venture, a quirky comedy named ‘Bala’ which is to star Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhoomi Pednekar.
Ayushmann, who is currently basking in the success of his back-to-back two blockbuster films ‘Andhadhun’ and ‘Badhai Ho’, has quite a few interesting projects in hand. After playing a blind pianist and the character who was dealing with erectile dysfunction in ‘Subh Mangal Saavdhan’, will now be seen suffering from premature balding in ‘Bala’.
While Ayushmann will essay the character of a premature balding guy, Bhoomi who played his overweight wife in their first venture together, will be seen as a dusky small-town girl. After ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisa’ (2015) and ‘Subh Mangal Saavdhan’ (2017), Ayushmann and Bhoomi, the actor duo is all set for a hat-trick with this quirky comedy riot ‘Bala’.
The film will be helmed by Amar Kaushik, who has directed one of 2018’s biggest hits, the horror-comedy Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Stree’.
‘Bala’ is expected to roll in March 2019 and if everything goes on right track, the makers are all set to release the film in September same year, according to a close source.
The film will revolve around a guy who is balding prematurely and a dusky girl who is grappling with her own complexes brought on by her complexion.
Talking about the film’s development Producer Dinesh said that “Through their journey, the film impresses on the fact that most of us are usually attracted to outward beauty and don’t go beyond that to understand the real person. That’s one of the reasons so many relationships are falling apart today!
The maker of off-beat entertainers like ‘Stree’ and Irrfan Khan’s educative ‘Hindi Medium’, Dinesh added that “It’s a hilarious story but at the same time, it makes you think. The two characters are very interesting and easy to relate with, so is their small-town milieu.”
He also shared that how he is excited to collaborate with Ayushmann and Bhoomi for the first time.
Confirming the news, director Amar Kaushik stated that “I am completely in love with the way the script of Bala is shaping up and really excited about having Ayushmann and Bhoomi on board with us, two of the most talented actors of our times. The film is going to be a fun and a very relatable film for the audience, bringing forth problems that many of us face every day. Associating with Dinesh and the team of Maddock Films once again is just so lovely and also emotional after the super experience we had on Stree.”
Amar was reportedly being associated with the project only in the capacity of a creative director, but soon he got emotionally attached with the story of ‘Bala’. So, he opted to helm the project.
But why did the makers choose to name it as ‘Bala’? While producer Dinesh was quizzed on it, he revealed after a long pause that it’s the nick name of Ayushmann in the film actually and he thought it will be an apt title for the film. “It also a tongue-in-cheek pun on his life story, Bal Aa Aaa Aaa” he concluded with a smile.
