The first batch of Chinook CH-47F (I) heavy lift helicopters has been inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday.
“The inductions of the CH-47F (I) Chinooks is an asset to the Indian Air Force’s airlift capabilities,” said Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa at the induction event held in Chandigarh Air Force Station.
“This modern, multi-mission-capable, heavy lift transport helicopter will enhance our heli-lift capability across all types of terrain to full effect,” he added.
These helicopters will fill the gap in the India finalised a contract for 15 Boeing Chinooks in September 2015. The first batch arrived at the Mundra Port in Gujrat in February this year, ahead of schedule. The first batch of IAF crew began their training to fly the Chinook in the U.S in October 2018.
