After giving the National Award-winning sports biopic ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, which was critically acclaimed and commercially successful in box office, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Bollywood actor-director Farhan Akhtar are all set to reunite.
After six year, the director-actor duo is collaborating for another sports drama, titled ‘Toofan’. In his next venture, Farhan will be seen as a pugilist. On Wednesday, the actor-filmmaker Akhtar took to his Twitter and revealed the news.
Just like, Farhan’s previous sports drama ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, where he was seen in Olympian sprinter Milkha Singh’s role, in the upcoming venture will also feature Farhan as a boxer. Akhtar also mentioned in his post that the film will revolve around a ‘heartfelt story of a boxer.’

Along with a photo of himself and director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, he wrote, “Thrilled to share that 6 years after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and I are reuniting to create #Toofan. A heartfelt story of a boxer. Hope for your best wishes as we embark on this new journey. Love.”
The film will be bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ROMP pictures.

Though the other production details and casts have not been revealed yet, here we have learnt from a close source to the development that ‘Toofan’ is not a biopic. It is a fictional story, which is scripted by ‘Raajneeti’ famed Anjum Rajabali.
Now, if the reports are to believed, ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ famed Zaira Wasim has been already bagged a key role in the film, the girl who is now busy with shooting for Farhan Akhtar starrer Shonali Bose’s ‘The Sky Is Pink’. That means it will be Zaira’s second venture with Akhtar!
“Farhan immediately fell in love with the script, as soon as he heard it and is very excited to collaborate with Mehra after six years. On the other hand, director Rakeysh has already begun prepping up for the big-budgeted project and Farhan will be training extensively in boxing for the role. The film will role this year only,” added the source.
Meanwhile, not to miss, Mr. Akhtar enjoys boxing a lot and once he had also revealed that one of his all time favorite film is Martin Scorsese’s 1980 American Biographical sports drama ‘Raging Bull’.
