Four members, including three women, of an Indian-origin Sikh family have been fatally shot at their home in a suburban Ohio community of the United States.
One of them was an “Indian national on a visit to the US while others were persons of Indian origin,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted, adding it was “not a hate crime”.
The victims have been identified as Hakikat Singh Panag, 59, his wife, Paramjit Kaur, 62, their daughter, Shalinder Kaur, 39, and his sister-in-law, Amarjit Kaur, 58.
According to West Chester Police Chief Joel Herzog, it was their relative, who found the victims lying dead at their home, informed the police.
Though the family also had children but they survived for not being at home when the incident occurred.
The Indian consulate in New York said, it was in close communication with the police.
The motive behind the slayings could not be immediately learnt. Police are yet to identify any suspect in the matter.
