Narendra Modi Government is all set to implement one nation-one ration card scheme across the country by June-end, it was revealed on Saturday.
Talking to media in New Delhi, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said his Ministry has written to the states and Union Territories to fast-track the roll out of the scheme.
He said the new mechanism will ensure that no poor person is deprived of Public Distribution System, PDS entitlement if the person shifts from one place to another.
The minister said the system will also help to remove fake ration card holders.
Paswan said 10 states – Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura are already providing portability of PDS entitlements.
Paswan also said arrangements are being made to ensure that by the 15th of August this year, beneficiaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be able to take ration from either state.
Similarly, the beneficiaries of Gujarat and Maharashtra can take ration from each other’s state.
