Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Monday reached office in New Delhi’s Nirman Bhawan riding a bicycle, as he took charge of his ministry on Monday.
After taking over the charge, the minister said, “My priority will be to strengthen the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhanmantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PM-JAY).”
He had taken same move on swearing-in day while Prime Minister took oath for his second term at Raisina Hill. He had come to the Rashtrapati Bhavan by bicycle to take oath as minister.
The minister also assured that his ministry will ensure that people in every nook and cranny of the country are able to avail the benefits of the scheme.
“Since the launch of PM-JAY, around 27 lakh people have availed the benefits under the scheme. However, still many people are not aware of it. Some people who are in dire need of the benefits provided under the insurance scheme are not able to avail it due to eligibility criteria issues,” he said.
On his next priority list the minister added that his ministry is to complete the unfinished target of transforming nearly 1.5 lakh primary health center and sub-sub centers as health and wellness centers by 2022 to provide comprehensive and quality primary health care close to the community.
