An Indian Army officer was killed and a soldier left wounded in an IED explosion along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowshera’s Lam area on Saturday.
Major Chitresh Singh Bisht, a resident of Dehradun in Uttarakhand, was inspecting a freshly dug area when the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), reportedly planted by “enemy forces within Indian territory” detonated.
It was planted 1.5 km inside the LoC in Rajouri district’s Naushera sector. The officer belongs to the Corps of Engineers.
The injured soldier was rushed to hospital.
The incident happened after the Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation in the country as well as in Jammu and Kashmir too.
The blast came two days after 40 CRPF troopers were killed in Kashmir’s Pulwama district when a Pakistan-based terrorist rammed his explosive-laden into the bus they were travelling in. The toll swelled to 49 on Saturday as others injured succumbed.
