On Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award on Bollyood actor Manoj Bajpayee in a ceremony held in at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Donning traditional attire Manoj received the honour with folded hands.
Bajpayee is one of the most critically acclaimed actors in the Indian film industry. He has been applauded many times for his stellar performances in films such as ‘Satya’, ‘Rajneeti’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Aligarh’ and others.
Two months ago, in January, Manoj’s name was announced in the list of actors who would receive the prestigious award which is also the fourth highest honor of the country, the Padma Shri.
After knowing this, the actor was thrilled with excitement and could not believe it to be true. He said in a statement, “My friends, relatives and followers are very happy with it. I have observed that till now, no one has abused me on social media and no controversy has been created when my name was announced.”

Further he stated, “All other awards are given for excellence in a role or a film. But Padma Shri is given for excellence in your journey. It is not just about a film you have contributed to but through your art and craft the contribution you have made to the society. So that’s a huge comment on the achievement of an artist like me.”
This is not the first time he has received a prestigious award as the actor is the proud owner of two National Awards. Bajpayee was last seen in Abhishek Chaubey’s dacoit-drama ‘Sonchiriya’ which was critically acclaimed and received a lot of appreciation, but did not manage to bring a large number of cinephiles to theatres. He will next be seen in the Netflix film ‘Dhaka’, which also stars Chris Hemsworth, Pankaj Tripathi, Randeep Hooda and David Harbour in pivotal roles.
Except Manoj, other Padma Shri awardees like Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and the renowned scientist Nambi Narayanan. Interestingly, a biopic is currently on the floor on Scientist Narayanan, titled ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ featuring R Madhavan in the lead.
