Ensuring unorganized workers interest Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi MaandhanYojana (PM-SYM), a social security scheme for unorganised workers.
The aim of the scheme is to ensure welfare and fulfil interest of those working in unorganised sector. During the event held in Ahmedabad, Modi attacked previous UPA government, saying that Congress-led UPA government ignored interests of unorganised workers while NDA is committed to their welfare.
The scheme has simultaneously been launched at about two lakh locations across the country.
It will ensure monthly pensions to unorganized employees after their retirement (after the age of 60 years).
Indian has moreover 42 crores unorganised employees. The previous government took political benefits from the poor without actually ensuring their welfare, added Prime Minister.
He also said, “The raised slogans like Garibi Hatao, they played politics around it. The Communists never brought a scheme for unorganized workers. What parties did not do in 55 years, my government did in 55 months.”
