In a bid to avoid getting extradited to India, one of the key offenders in the alleged Rs 14,000 crore PNB scam Mehul Choksi has surrendered his Indian citizenship.
He has been residing in Antigua for over a year.
He deposited his Indian passport number Z 3396732, along with cancelled pages at the Indian High Commission in Antigua. He has also deposited $177 – a mandatory amount to leave Indian citizenship and become a citizen of Antigua.

From health issues to security fears, Choksi has given many excuses.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently reacted that our government has passed Fugitive Economic Offenders bill. People who have fled, are going to be brought back.

Amit Narang, Joint Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs has enlightened the authorities back home concerning Choksi surrendering his passport.
Choksi has chosen Jolly Harbour in Antigua as his new residence.
