Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday faced major embarrassment in Amethi as farmers staged protest demanding their land be returned to them or he should go to Italy.
Protestors staged protest near Samrat Cycle factory, the factory, which was inaugurated by Rahul’s father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Who was then MP of the constituency.
In a pre-election gathering at Gauriganj of Amethi on Wednesday, the farmers demanding that either their land should be return, which was taken away by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, or they should be compensated by employment. Protestors also raise slogans saying: “Rahul has grabbed their land.”
Earlier, Union Minister Smriti Irani had claimed that Rahul forcefully grabbed farmers land through the foundation.
Veteran residents of the place told that when Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister, Jain brother in 1980 took over 65.57 acres of farming land to form industrial area and run a company in Kausar.
But when the project faced failure a land auction took place in 2014. From the auction Rajiv Gandhi charitable trust had given better bid and purchased the land by using 1,50,000 stamp duty.

From that time the land is facing major dispute and farmers irritation; which overflowed Thursday as massive protest in front of Rahul.
