Making biopics on sports personalities has become the new trend in Bollywood industry. Be it ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Dangal’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘MS. Dhoni: An Untold Story’, the genre has become quite popular among the directors and producers. But, this isn’t the only new trend in Bollywood.
Well, the latest trend in B-Town is — actors turning producers for their own films. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra to Deepika Padukone, several actors from Bollywood film industry have turned producers.
Last year, we heard Deepika Padukone turned producer for her upcoming biopic on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal titled ‘Chhapaak’, helmed by Meghna Gulzar. And now, if the reports are to be believed, Deepika’s ‘Padmavat’ co-star could be the latest one to join the ‘actor turned producer’ bandwagon! Yes, we are talking about ‘Kaminey’ star Shahid Kapoor.
Shahid is all set to don the hat of a producer for Dingko Singh biopic in which the actor also plays the titular character. He has joined hands with director Raja Krishna Menon for his next directorial and reportedly going to co-produce the film.
Raja Krishna Menon’s derectorial is based on the life of legendary Manipuri boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh, the 1998 Asian Games Gold medalist Boxer.
The film was initially supposed to go on floors in January, this year, but has been delayed. Because, the makers are currently working on the script to get it right. Since the film is based on an inspiring and challenging real life story of a star boxer who hails from Manipur. Director Raja is currently putting the research together with his writers. Several drafts are being written to get it into the right shape and makers have plans to take it off later in this year, revealed a source close to the development.
According to the same source, Shahid owns the rights to Dingko Singh’s story and he got Raja Krishna on board to direct the venture. The locations have already been locked. It will be shot primarily in Manipur Dingko’s hometown and Delhi, while an international schedule is also being planned besides.

To get into the skin of the famous boxer, Dingko Singh, Shahid Kapoor has spent time with him for a few days. Shahid has been prepping for the role for over a year now. His prep started with learning Dingko’s body languages and nuances of the 1998 Asian Games Gold medalist Boxer, as this is indeed a special one for Shahid as it marks the debut venture of him as a producer.
