Atleast 6 simultaneous blasts hit three churches and three hotels in Sri Lankan capital of Colombo. The blasts left the people in shock as 24 people were killed and 280 injured after the explosion, according to sources.
The blast hit three churches when people visited the churches on the occasion of Easter.
In a tweet, Minister for external Affair Sushma Swaraj tweeted, “I am constantly in touch with the high commissioner in Colombo and we are closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka.”
Only around six percent of mainly Buddhist Sri Lanka is Catholic. Security officials confirmed that the blasts hit churches in the north of the capital and in the town of Negombo, just outside Colombo.
The nature of the explosions was not immediately clear. “A bomb attack to our church, please come and help if your family members are there,” read a post in English on the Facebook page of the St Sebastian’s Church at Katuwapitiya in Negombo.rr
