Eleven people were killed and several others injured in a bus accident in Savjian area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. A bus carrying about 30 passengers from Mandi slipped off the road in Bareilly drain and fell into a deep gorge this morning. Relief operations were launched by the army, police and local citizens immediately after the accident was reported.
So far 11 bodies have been recovered from the spot. Mandi Tehsildar Shahzad Latif told that the rescue operation of the army is going on and many injured have been admitted to the hospitals of Mandi. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. He has also directed the administration to provide better treatment to the injured.
While wishing speedy recovery of the injured, the Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
