11 people died in an accident involving electrocution in Tamil Nadu early today. The accident took place at Kalimedu in Thanjavur district when a car from Apar Temple came in contact with a high-powered electric wire. This car was involved in the Rath Yatra leaving the temple. 16 others were also injured in the accident. Officials said that the injured have been admitted to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital.
Stalin announced a consolation amount of five lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He also said that he would visit the site today and meet the affected families and the hospitalized injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the Thanjavur accident. He expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and wished speedy recovery to the injured. Two lakh rupees each will be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
