36-hour curfew lifted in Sri Lanka

The nationwide curfew imposed on Saturday has been lifted today in view of the ongoing political turmoil in Sri Lanka. Apart from rail services, private bus services under the Sri Lanka Transport Board have resumed from 6 am.

Trains are running late by one hour. Government buses are running as per their schedule, with private bus owners saying that only 15 per cent of the existing fleet of private buses have resumed bus services.

Sri Lanka is currently facing an unprecedented economic crisis. All Sri Lankan ministers tendered their collective resignation last night in protest against the government’s policies. Now only Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse is working.
