Deaths due to road accidents have come down by 37 per cent in the national capital in the last ten years. However, the hit and run cases in the city have increased to 59 per cent. In 2020 it was 51 percent.
According to the Delhi Transport Department’s report on road accident deaths, there were 708 hit-and-run cases in 2021. Most of the pedestrians died in these accidents. The report said that the Ring Road Bypass proved to be the most risky corridor in the national capital.
During 2020, national highways, state highways and other roads reported fewer accidents, deaths and injuries compared to the previous year. One reason behind this can also be seen that a lockdown was imposed in the country for several months from March 22 to December 2020 due to the corona epidemic, under which most people were staying in their homes.
