A joint operation by the ATS and police in Kondhwa, Pune, has led to the detention of several suspects accused of spreading extremism.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Pune Police conducted a major raid in the Kondhwa area from late Wednesday night to Thursday morning. The operation was carried out after security agencies received information that some individuals were spreading radical ideology and engaging in suspicious activities in the area. Based on a tip-off, this joint operation raided a total of 18 locations, and several suspects were detained and are being interrogated.

The raids were conducted simultaneously in four police station areas of Pune, with heavy police deployment in the area. The operation, which began around 11 p.m. Wednesday night, continued until Thursday morning. During the raid, teams thoroughly searched the homes, offices, and other possible hideouts of the suspects.

According to ATS officials, the raids were aimed at identifying individuals involved in the spread of extremist ideology or in contact with networks linked to it. The investigation is closely examining the suspects’ personal backgrounds, their social media, and digital activities. Sources said the operation was based on extensive intelligence input regarding a potential radicalization network in the Kondhwa area.

No formal arrests have been made yet, but interrogation of those detained is ongoing. Police say that further action will be decided only after the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, a heavy police presence remained in the area, keeping locals on their toes. In some locations, police also questioned local residents for verification.

ATS officials have clarified that this entire operation was carried out with national security in mind. They stated that any form of radical or suspicious activity will not be tolerated in Maharashtra. Pune Police also reiterated that such operations will continue to maintain peace and security in the city.

Police have urged citizens to immediately contact local police or helplines if they become aware of any suspicious information about individuals or activities. The agencies’ goal is to ensure that any form of extremist activity is rooted out and peace is maintained in the city.
