The government has extended the period of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for another six months. Now till September this year, the beneficiaries will get assistance under this scheme. Announcing this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that more than 80 crore people of the country will continue to get the benefit of this scheme as before.
The scheme was launched in April 2020 and is the largest food security program in the world. The fifth phase of the scheme was to end by the end of this month.
The government has so far spent two hundred and 60 lakh crore rupees on this scheme and by September 2022, another 80 thousand crore rupees will be spent on it.
