Army upgrades five women officers who have completed 26 years of service to the rank of colonel

The Indian Army has promoted five women officers to the rank of colonels on a time-bound basis. These women have completed 26 years of service.

The Defense Ministry has said that this is the first time that women officers have been allowed to serve in the rank of Colonel in the Signal, Electronics and Mechanical Engineers and Engineers Command. Earlier, women were promoted only to the rank of Colonel in the Medical Command and Education Command and Judge Advocate General.
