A sensational attack took place on Thakurdwara temple located in Khandwala area in Amritsar district of Punjab late Saturday night, which spread panic in the entire area. Two unidentified youths riding a motorcycle attacked the temple with a grenade, which was recorded in the CCTV camera installed outside the temple. According to the footage, at around 12:35 pm, two youths reached near the temple on a motorcycle. A flag was seen in their hand. After waiting for a few seconds, they threw something towards the temple and immediately fled from there. Moments later, there was a huge explosion in the temple.
Fortunately, the priests were sleeping in the temple at that time and there were no casualties in this attack. However, the blast damaged the temple and created an atmosphere of fear among the local people. As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the spot, sealed the area and started investigation. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar took stock of the situation and said that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI may be behind this attack. He claimed that such incidents are being carried out by misleading innocent youth. Bhullar assured that the attackers will be caught soon and the atmosphere of the city will not be allowed to deteriorate.
Condemning the incident, Akali Dal Youth District President Kiranpreet Singh Monu called it shameful. He said that earlier there were attacks on police posts, now religious places are being targeted, which shows the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. Tension has increased in the area after the attack. The police have tightened security and intensified the search for the attackers. People are demanding from the Punjab government and police to arrest the accused soon and stop such incidents.
