NEW DELHI: A designated court is set to take up the bail applications of Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) activists Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das shortly. In accordance with mandatory procedural requirements, police personnel brought both leaders to the Mandir Marg police station under security watch ahead of their production before the jurisdictional magistrate.
The activists had been remanded to judicial custody following an unauthorized demonstration at Jantar Mantar, facing allegations of violating regulatory restrictions and disrupting public order. Following the submission of regular bail petitions by defense counsel, required administrative paperwork and formal procedures were undertaken at the local police station to prepare for the judicial proceedings.
The upcoming hearing is expected to see arguments from both legal teams regarding further detention versus release on bail. While the defense will press for immediate relief citing constitutional rights to peaceful protest, law enforcement authorities will place their submissions on maintaining regulatory compliance and public order.
