The air force base in Cox’s Bazar on the south-eastern coast of Bangladesh was recently ambushed by some miscreants. The incident poses a challenging situation for the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus as he is being accused of failing to control the chaos prevailing in the country.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, the attack was carried out by miscreants from the Samiti Para area near the air force base. Several people were injured during the incident. The air force personnel fired several rounds in self-defence at 11:30 am local time. The situation arose when the deputy commissioner requested the locals to leave the air force area and move to the Khurushkul Housing Project.
The incident reflected the growing unrest in Bangladesh, which has persisted since the fall of the former government led by Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. Law and order is currently in a fragile state and the country is witnessing an increase in the frequency of violent incidents.
Meanwhile, in Dhaka, students took out a protest march against the government’s failure. In protest against the inaction on the increasing incidents of sexual violence, students of Jagannath University, Eden College and other prominent institutions became active. Government awareness was demanded through slogans and resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor was also demanded. Students expressed concern over the increasing incidents of rape in recent times and called it a proof of the government’s failure.
This type of unrest in Bangladesh has posed significant challenges to the government and requires immediate and effective measures.
