After the burning of cash at Justice Yashwant Verma’s house was confirmed, the Supreme Court has shared photos, videos and reports. Justice Verma has expressed surprise at the contents of the video, as it showed something that was not found at the spot. He has called it a conspiracy against him.
Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay has uploaded the report issued in the case of cash found at Justice Yashwant Verma’s house on the Supreme Court website. Some parts of the documents have been edited to maintain confidentiality. This step of the Supreme Court has been taken for transparency. The report includes Justice Verma’s reaction and documents related to the case. Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna has consulted the members of the Collegium about making the documents public.
Justice Verma has denied the allegations of huge amount of cash being found at his house. Citing the video shared by the police, he has said that the things shown in the video were not found at the spot. He has called it a conspiracy against him.
In the report, Justice Verma has stated that he was in Bhopal at the time of the incident and he got this information from his daughter. Black burnt substance was lying in the room. The Police Commissioner showed him the pictures and videos, after which he suspected a conspiracy against him.
Documents uploaded on the Supreme Court website showed that Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna had shared three questions with the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court that could be asked of Justice Verma. These questions are: How does he account for the presence of money/cash in the room situated in his premises? Explain the source of the money/cash found in the said room. Who is the person who removed the burnt money/cash from the room on the morning of March 15, 2025?
