The Delhi government has implemented an important policy decision to control air pollution. From July 1, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will not be provided fuel at petrol pumps in the national capital.
For the effective implementation of this decision, a coordinated action plan has been developed with the Delhi Police and the Transport Department. A provision has also been made to seize vehicles violating the rules.
Information boards were installed in this regard at petrol pumps in various areas of the capital from Tuesday morning itself. According to the employees of Bharat Petroleum pump located at Lal Kuan, clear instructions were issued by the administration after Monday midnight.
Petrol pump workers are now dispensing fuel only after verifying the registration number and model of each vehicle. Special contact numbers have been provided for police assistance in case of any irregularity.
Surveillance teams of the transport department and traffic police have been deployed in the Chirag Delhi area. Sub-inspector Dharamvir of the transport enforcement department said, “We have been working since 6 am. Strict compliance of the government order is being ensured.”
Many fuel stations have been installed with advanced technology cameras and sound indicators that automatically identify and alert vehicles above the prescribed age limit.
This policy initiative is aimed at improving air quality in Delhi and reducing the number of polluting vehicles. The restrictions imposed earlier have now been made more effective through fuel supply control.
