The ED has raided several places in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in connection with the money laundering case involving mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Official sources said that searches were being conducted on properties belonging to Ansari and his alleged associates in Ghazipur, Lucknow and Delhi.
Five-time MLA Mukhtar Ansari is currently lodged in Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh. The Enforcement Directorate is probing at least 49 criminal cases involving Ansari. These include cases of land grabbing, murder and extortion.
The Ghazipur district administration had last week confiscated nearly two hectares of Ansari’s land, valued at over Rs 6 crore. This land was bought by Ansari with illegal earnings.
