‘Eve Teasing Squad’ will be formed in Delhi, women’s safety will get new strength

There are plans to set up ‘Eve Teasing Squad’ in Delhi, which will be officially named ‘Courtesy Squad’. There will be two squads in each district, comprising an ACP and the head of the Crime Against Women Squad. This initiative is based on the model of Uttar Pradesh’s ‘Anti Romeo Squad’.

In this context, Delhi Police has issued a circular, which mentions that several strategies are being implemented to eliminate crimes against women, especially eve-teasing, molestation and other forms of harassment. The main objective of the squad is to create a safe public environment and instill confidence in the vulnerable sections of Delhi.

To strengthen women safety in public places, detailed instructions have already been issued under Standing Order No. L&O/25/2024. The circular states that dedicated “Anti-Eve Teasing Squads” will be created at the district level, consisting of trained personnel who will focus on preventing, preventing and responding to such crimes on an immediate basis.

The squad will comprise one inspector, one sub-inspector, eight constables and head constables, including four women police personnel. The squad will be deployed in sensitive areas, and its members will be directed to carry out policing in plain clothes. Additionally, the squad will also be in touch with RWAs and local volunteers to get information about sensitive spots. The measure aims to carry out checking in public transport and make victims aware of the proper complaint procedure.
