NEW DELHI: The Indian Space Research Organisation announced an ambitious infrastructural roadmap to meet surging domestic and international satellite launch demands. Under the outlined expansion plan, the space agency aims to commission four fully operational launch pads across the country by 2029 to accelerate commercial deployments and scientific research missions.
Civil construction is advancing rapidly at Kulasekharapattinam in Tamil Nadu to establish a dedicated launch complex optimized for the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle. The secondary coastal spaceport is designed to handle commercial payloads and private sector satellites directly, thereby decongesting the primary launch facilities at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
Operationalizing four active launch pads will significantly expand the nation’s spaceflight frequency, placing it among the most capable spacefaring infrastructures globally. The capacity boost will not only expand the domestic share of the international commercial launch market but also provide critical operational redundancy for upcoming human spaceflight endeavors and deep-space scientific programs.
