Financial Action Task Force condemns Pahalgam terror attack

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has officially condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The organization has clarified in its analysis that such an attack could not have been conducted in the absence of financial support. According to FATF, the Pahalgam attack and other similar incidents are not possible without financial transactions between terrorist supporters.

FATF has supported more than 200 jurisdictions under its global network in taking strong measures against the financing of terrorist activities. The organization will soon publish a comprehensive analytical report on the financing of terrorist organizations based on data provided by its global network.

FATF President Elisa de Anda Madrazo recently stressed the fact that no single business entity, authority or nation can single-handedly address the challenge of terrorism. She emphasized the need for international unity against global terrorism.

It is noteworthy that this is only the third time in the last decade that FATF has condemned a terrorist attack. The special significance this time is that for the first time FATF has recognized “state-sponsored terrorism” as a source of financing. This step is being considered an important development in international anti-terrorism efforts.

This approach of the Financial Action Task Force is an important step towards strengthening global efforts against the financing of terrorist activities, which can help prevent such incidents in future.
