Six people were killed and more than 24 injured in a shootout during an Independence Day parade in the outskirts of Chicago yesterday in Illinois, USA. Police officials said the search was on for the attacker, aged between 18 and 20. The parade in Highland Park was halted upon hearing the gunshots.
The local police commander said a gun was recovered from the spot. According to the police, the suspected assailant opened fire from the roof of a nearby house.
The Sun Times correspondent said she saw some blood-soaked bodies covered in blankets. Several eyewitnesses told the newspaper that they had heard gunshots.
