The common people will be able to witness the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah joint checkpost from this evening. This prestigious ceremony, which was postponed due to the tense situation between India and Pakistan, has been resumed from Tuesday, but on the first day only media representatives were invited. The common people will also be able to witness this historic ceremony at the Hussainiwala border post in Ferozepur and Sadki border post in Fazilka from today.
This ceremonial parade at border posts was suspended from May 8 after the execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’. Presently the event has been resumed but with significant modifications in the security standards following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
The major changes include, firstly, the border gates from the Indian side will be kept closed during the ceremony. Second, the traditional practice of handover between the troops of the two countries has also been cancelled. Additionally, there will be no exchange of sweets or gifts on any occasion.
The Beating Retreat ceremony is a powerful symbol of national security and patriotism. This event has been a major attraction for the thousands of spectators who visit Attari. This ceremony instills a sense of respect and gratitude towards the armed forces among the citizens and infuses pride in the nation and new energy for national service.
Thus, the resumption of the Beating Retreat ceremony with revised protocols symbolises India’s firm commitment to security and vigilance towards national integrity. This move holds important symbolic value in the current context of India-Pakistan relations.
